Light-emitting diodes have long been recognised as the most economical and efficient light source. The most powerful LEDs allow up to 50 00 hours of operation without maintenance. It is therefore no surprise that they are currently the most popular choice for street lighting systems. In addition to their very long service life, however, they have even more advantages.
Selecting street and urban lighting …is a process in which many factors are taken into account. One key factor is the width of the light beam – a narrow beam is used for spot lighting, while a wide beam is ideal for streets, for example. The asymmetrical light beam is also placed next to roadways, allowing non-standard spaces to be well illuminated. The use of such lanterns makes it possible to increase the safety of road users while saving on electricity costs. The opposite is the symmetrical light flux, in which the angle of illumination is 360 degrees. This means that the space around the light source – in this case a diodes LED lantern – is evenly illuminated.
It is worth noting here that we are also dealing with the possibility of controlling the glare phenomenon. Poorly adjusted lanterns or luminaires can contribute to glare for drivers, cyclists or pedestrians, and in lamps with several light points Other advantages of LEDs include:
– very good resistance to vibration and shock,
– trouble-free operation under extreme weather conditions,
– environmental friendliness, as a result of their long service life, but also the absence of mercury and reduction in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere,
– the possibility of combining them with other modern solutions: photovoltaic panels, movement sensors or detectors responsible for changing the intensity of the light.
The colour of the light is also not insignificant, which for street lighting should be neutral. Cold-coloured LED lanterns are unlikely to be used in public spaces – such light can be too harsh. It is more common to find them in industrial facilities, for example. Historically, it was warm shades that were most often found in urban lighting, but today yellow light can be used in parks, for example. In the case of light-emitting diodes, we therefore have several options to choose from. Of these, the neutral shade is the best option, as it does not distort colours and gives an effect close to daytime conditions.
LED streetlight fittings can be made in a variety of styles. There is no need to abandon classic, 19th century designs in favour of minimalist urban architecture. On the contrary, the combination of classics with state-of-the-art technology works very well – especially in parks and places of of historical significance. Stylish street lighting is our company’s speciality. At Art Metal we deal with the design and production of city lanterns inspired by ancient styles. In our product catalogue we have dozens of proposals that differ in the shape of the luminaire, the height of the pole, the number of arms and other decorative elements. Explore our proposals!
